Beer and Asian food pairings

Albany Times Union reporter Steve Barnes recently blogged on a beer and asian food pairing dinner over at his Table Hopping Blog.

The Saratoga Rose Inn & Restaurant in Hadley is offering a five course beer dinner featuring Asian noodle dishes, including:

The meal will start off with a Thai clam pot made with whole baby clams, garlic-rice wine broth, buckwheat noodles and Thai holy basil paired with Brooklyn Lager from New York.

The seafood entree is Hot and sour shrimp lo mein made with Ginger-marinated shrimp, water chestnuts, Chinese egg noodles and matched with Ommegang Hennepin Saison Farmhouse Ale from nearby Cooperstown, New York.

The poultry entree is Seared black bean chicken on crispy noodles made with red onions and snow peas paired with Duvel Belgian Golden Ale from Belgium.

The pork entree is Singapore curried noodles with barbecued pork made with Chinese wine-cured sausage, leeks and red peppers matched with Fin du Monde from Québec.

For dessert, the Saratoga Rose is serving Orange mousse with chocolate noodle cookies paired with Otter Creek Stovepipe Porter from Vermont.

The Saratoga Rose has several pairing dinners throughout the year, visit their website for the latest offering:

Last year I visited Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, NY and chatted with the brewmaster Phil Leinhart about possible food pairings with their Belgian-style beers. His pairing suggestions are here: http://kathleenlisson.blogspot.com/2008/05/food-and-beer-pairings-from-brewery.html
